How to craft White Wool in Survival Mode

1. Open the Crafting Menu

First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3x3 crafting grid that looks like this:

2. Add Items to make White Wool

In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3x3 crafting grid. To make white wool, place 4 string in the 3x3 crafting grid.

When making white wool, it is important that the string are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, there should be 1 string in the first box and 1 string in the second box. In the second row, there should be 1 string in the first box and 1 string in the second box. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for white wool.

You can also add wool to your inventory in Survival mode by killing a sheep.

If you attack the sheep, it will turn pink and try to run away.

Continue to chase and attack the sheep. The sheep will disappear when it is killed.

Shear a Sheep to get Wool in Survival Mode

You can also add wool to your inventory in Survival mode by shearing a sheep. Before you can do this, make sure you have shears in your inventory.

To shear a sheep, select your shears in the hotbar.

Next, use the shears on the sheep. The game control to use the shears depends on the version of Minecraft:

  • For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the sheep.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap on the sheep.
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
  • For PS3 and PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
  • For Wii U, press the ZL button on the gamepad.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the sheep.
  • For Education Edition, right click on the sheep.

When the sheep has been sheared, you will hear a snip sound and wool will appear next to the sheep.
