Next, select a water bucket in your hotbar so that you are holding it in your hand.

3. Use the Water Bucket on the Axolotl

While in front of the axolotl, use the water bucket on the axolotl. The game control to catch the axolotl in the water bucket depends on the version of Minecraft:

For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the axolotl.
For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap on the axolotl.
For Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
For PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the axolotl.
For Education Edition, right click on the axolotl.

It may take several attempts to catch the axolotl in the water bucket. When you successfully catch the axolotl, you will see the message "Bucket of Axolotl" appear on the screen and your bucket will look like it has an axolotl inside. This axolotl is still alive and can be released from the bucket whenever you want. This is a great way to move axolotl around in the game.
