The Nether in Minecraft
This Minecraft tutorial explains the Nether dimension with screenshots.
What is the Nether?
The Nether is its own dimension in Minecraft and not part of the Overworld. In Minecraft, there are 3 dimensions in the game:
- The Overworld
- The Nether
- The End
The Nether has a hell-like appearance that is filled with lava, flames, and a totally different set of mobs and biomes than the Overworld. Starting in the Nether Update, the Nether now has unique and colorful biomes to explore (see biomes section below).
How do you get to the Nether?
When you first start the game, you spawn in the Overworld. As you move around the world, you will find Overworld biomes to explore such as the Jungle, Desert, Plains, etc. But how do you find the Nether?
Nether Portal
You get to the Nether by building a Nether portal that acts as a doorway between the Overworld and the Nether.
If you die in the Nether, you will respawn back in the Overworld and all of your inventory items will be left behind in the Nether.
Biomes in the Nether
Starting in the Nether Update, there are many biomes in the Nether - Crimson Forest, Warped Forest, Soul Sand Valley, Nether Waste and Basalt Deltas. Let's have a brief look at each of these Nether biomes.
Crimson Forest
In Minecraft, the Crimson Forest is a new biome in the Nether and will be introduced in the Nether Update. It is known for its red skies, red landscape, and red tree-like structures. This is the only biome where you can find piglins and hoglins.
