Difficulty Modes in Minecraft

This Minecraft tutorial explains all about difficulty modes (Peaceful, Easy, Normal, Hard) in Minecraft. Let's take a closer look.

Difficulty

There are 4 difficulty levels that you can play in Minecraft - Peaceful, Easy, Normal, and Hard. Let's quickly explain the differences between these modes.

TIP: You can adjust the difficulty mode at any time by changing the Difficulty setting under the Options menu or executing the /difficulty command.

Peaceful Mode

Peaceful mode is the safest mode to use. In this mode, hostile mobs will not spawn and deal damage, with the exception of the ender dragon. The ender dragon is the boss mob in the End dimension and will still spawn in Peaceful mode.

You will take damage from the physical world such as lava, drowning, or falling from heights. If you are damaged, your health bar will slowly replenish over time. Your food bar will not deplete and you will not get hungry. This will prevent you from being able to eat food. The only food you will be able to eat is golden apples.

Easy Mode

Easy mode is harder than Peaceful. In Easy mode, hostile mobs will spawn but deal less damage than Normal mode. However, mobs will not cause you harmful status effects. For example, cave spiders will not poison you and the wither boss will not cause you the Wither effect.

You will take damage from the physical world such as lava, drowning, or falls. Your food bar will deplete and you will get hungry. You will need to eat food to replenish your food bar. If your food bar is depleted, hunger will only take your health bar down to 5 hearts half hearthalf hearthalf hearthalf hearthalf heart. So you can not die from hunger in Easy mode.

Normal Mode

Normal mode is the standard mode in the game. In this mode, hostile mobs will spawn and deal the standard damage. Mobs can cause you harmful status effects such as poison or the Wither effect.

You will take damage from the physical world such as lava, drowning, or fall damage. Your food bar will deplete so you will get hungry and need to eat. If your food bar is depleted, hunger will only take your health bar down to 0.5 hearts half heart. So you can not die from hunger in Normal mode.

Hard Mode

Hard is a more difficult mode than Normal. In Hard mode, hostile mobs will spawn and deal more damage than Normal mode. Mobs can cause you harmful status effects such as Poison or the Wither effect.

You will take damage from the physical world such as lava, drowning, or fall damage. Your food bar will deplete so you will get hungry and need to eat. In Hard mode, you can die from hunger.
