How to Cure a Zombie Villager in Minecraft

When a zombie attacks a villager in Minecraft, the villager will transform into a zombie villager. With a few simple steps, you can cure a zombie villager and turn it back into a villager again. Let's explore how to cure a zombie villager.

Steps to Cure a Zombie Villager
1. Use a Splash Potion of Weakness
First, find the zombie villager and a safe place to cure it. In this example, we've made sure there is a fence between us and the zombie villager so that it doesn't attack us while we are trying to cure it. The process of curing a zombie villager takes several minutes.
Now, select a Splash Potion of Weakness in your hotbar.
You will want to throw the Splash Potion of Weakness at the zombie villager. The game control to use the splash potion depends on the version of Minecraft:
- For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the zombie villager.
- For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap on the zombie villager.
- For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
- For PS3 and PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
- For Wii U, press the ZL button on the gamepad.
- For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
- For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the zombie villager.
- For Education Edition, right click on the zombie villager.
You should see the splash potion break as it hits the zombie villager and you will see gray particles floating around the zombie villager.
2. Use a Golden Apple
Now that you have weakened the zombie villager, select a golden apple in your hotbar.
The game control to use the golden apple depends on the version of Minecraft:
- For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the zombie villager.
- For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap on the zombie villager.
- For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
- For PS3 and PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
- For Wii U, press the ZL button on the gamepad.
- For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
- For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the zombie villager.
- For Education Edition, right click on the zombie villager.
The particles floating around the zombie villager will turn from gray to red. This means that the zombie villager is in the process of being cured, but it takes several minutes to complete.
After about 4 minutes or so, the zombie villager will be cured and turn back into a villager again.
3. Place a Work Table
At this point, the villager does not have a profession, so you will need to place a work table next to the villager (See work tables). In this tutorial, we will place a Blast Furnace next to the villager so that it chooses the profession of Armorer.
4. Villager will offer Discounted Trades
Now you can trade with the villager and it will offer you discounted prices on the trades because you cured it.
In this example, the first trade will cost 9 coal (instead of 15) to buy 1 emerald, and the second trade will only cost 1 emerald (instead of 9) to buy an iron chestplate.
