Required Materials

In Minecraft, these are the required materials to use a compass:

Background

It is quite easy to wander off and get lost in Minecraft. You might be looking for villages, attacking mobs, or gathering materials. When you get lost, how do you find your way back? That's easy. You use a compass to help guide you.

A compass is a useful tool in the game that points to the World spawn point when you are in the Overworld. The World spawn point is the location where you spawned when you first created the World. In the Nether and the End, the compass needle will spin and you will need to use a Lodestone Compass instead to guide you in these dimensions.

So before you go venturing out in the Overworld, add a compass to your inventory and you can always find your way back to the World spawn point.

NOTE: When you sleep in a bed, your personal spawn point is reset, HOWEVER, the compass will still point to the World spawn point. The World spawn point is the location where you spawned when you first created your Minecraft World.

How to Use a Compass to find your World Spawn Point

It is very easy to use a compass. Just add the compass to your hotbar. Once the compass is in your hotbar, you will see the red compass arrow point to the direction of the World spawn point.
