Where to Find a Stronghold

In Minecraft, a stronghold is a structure that spawns naturally in the game. It is found underground and may spawn in nearly any Overworld biome.

Here is a picture of what a stronghold looks like in Spectator mode with Night Vision:

A stronghold is made up of a series of corridors and rooms. The most important room in a stronghold is the one that contains the End Portal (lower left in the image above).

Inside a Stronghold

Inside the stronghold, you will find many rooms and corridors to explore.

Chests

Look for chests to open in the various corridors.

These chests may contain iron ingot, armor, apples, redstone, horse armor, saddles, name tags, and eyes of ender. There is also a chance that you can find Eye Armor Trim in the chest. You can use Eye Armor Trim to visually customize your armor using a Smithing Table.

End Portal

Next, look for a room that contains the End Portal and a silverfish spawner.

The End Portal will have 12 blocks where Eyes of Ender need to be placed. There should already be 1 or 2 of the Eyes of Ender placed for you, so you only need to add the other 10-11 Eyes of Ender to complete the end portal.

Once you place the Eyes of Ender, the portal will activate. Now, you can go through the end portal to get to the End dimension.

Libraries

Quite commonly, you will also find a library in the stronghold. Libraries come in two sizes - a small room or a multi-level room with a light hanging from the ceiling. This is what each of these libraries look like:

Regardless of the size of the library, it will be filled with bookcases and cobwebs. Just break these bookcases to add books to your inventory. But before you leave the library, look for a chest filled with goodies! It may contain paper, books, and enchanted books. There is also a chance that you can find Eye Armor Trim in the library chest.
