How to get a Spruce Sapling in Survival Mode

You can add a spruce sapling to your inventory in Survival mode by chopping down the leaves of a spruce tree. So, let's get started!

1. Find a Spruce Tree

First, you need to find a spruce tree in your Minecraft world. Spruce trees are usually found in the Taiga or Old Growth Pine Taiga biomes.

2. Hold an Axe

Although you can use your hand to chop down the leaves of a spruce tree, we prefer to use a tool such as an axe. These are the axes you can choose from:

In this example, we are going to use a stone axe.

TIP: If you are looking for a spruce sapling, be sure to chop the leaves from the tree. If you chop down the tree trunk, it will give you a spruce log and not a spruce sapling.

3. Break the Spruce Leaves

The game control to break the spruce leaves depends on the version of Minecraft:

For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the spruce leaves.
For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the spruce leaves.
For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
For PS3 and PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad.
For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the spruce leaves.
For Education Edition, left click and hold on the spruce leaves.

4. Pick up the Spruce Sapling

Make sure you pick up the spruce sapling before it disappears.
