Hostility Level (Passive/Neutral)

A panda is that is a normal, lazy, worried, playful, weak or brown panda type is a passive mob and will never attack you in the game (Creative or Survival mode). A panda that is an aggressive panda type is a neutral mob and will attack you in Survival mode if you attack first. It will never attack you in Creative mode.

The term mob is short for mobile and is used to refer to all living, moving creatures in the game such as chickens, creepers, and pandas.

Health Points

In Minecraft, a panda has 10 hearts heart for health. This gives a panda 20 health points (because 1 heart = 2 health points). To kill a panda, you need to inflict 20 points of damage to the panda.

Where to Find Pandas

In Minecraft, you can find pandas in the Bamboo Jungle biome.

Pandas can be persuaded to follow you if you hold bamboo.

If you are having trouble finding a panda, you can summon a panda using a cheat or you can use a spawn egg.

Weapon

A panda does not carry a weapon.

Attack Method

You are safe to walk near a panda and it will not attack or cause you any damage. And if you attack a panda, it will just try to run away. It will not attack you back.

Drops

When you kill a panda in Minecraft, it may drop bamboo.

Make sure you pick up any dropped items before they disappear. They are useful and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.

Experience Points

As you play the game, you will gain experience. The most common way to gain experience is by killing mobs. When a mob is killed you will see tiny green and yellow balls appear and move towards you.

experience points

These orbs represent experience points. When you kill a panda, you will gain 1-3 experience points.

Types of Pandas

There are two NBT tags called MainGene and HiddenGene that determine the appearance and behavior of the panda (that will also be passed down to its offspring). There are 7 possible values for these NBT tags - normal, aggressive, lazy, worried, playful, weak, and brown.

These genes are either dominant or recessive (see table below). A dominant gene will always take priority over a recessive gene.

Based on the Main Gene and Hidden Gene, there are 7 dfferent pandas in Minecraft:

Type of Panda Gene Dominant or Recessive Hostility Level Appearance Special Behavior
normal panda normal Dominant Passive black and white (has a frowning face) Standard behavior
aggressive panda aggressive Dominant Neutral black and white (has angry eyebrows and a frowning face) Will attack when provoked and becomes Hostile when another panda in the area is attacked
lazy panda lazy Dominant Passive black and white (has a smiling face) Slower and likes to lay on its back
(and will not follow a player who is holding bamboo when the panda is laying on its back)
worried panda worried Dominant Passive black and white (has puppy-dog eyes like a tamed wolf) Usually stays away from players and hostile mobs such as creepers, skeletons, spiders, etc. During a thunderstorm, hides its face and shakes.
playful panda playful Dominant Passive black and white (has its tongue out) Likes to jump and roll around at all ages
weak panda weak Recessive Passive black and white
(has teary eyes and a snotty nose)
As a baby, sneezes more than other types of panda
brown panda brown Recessive Passive brown and white
(has a frowning face)
Standard behavior (only difference is its color)

Basic Rules of Genes

  1. If the Main Gene is dominant, the Hidden Gene (whether it is dominant or recessive) will be ignored and the Main Gene will always determine the panda's appearance and behavior.
  2. If the Main Gene is recessive and the Hidden Gene is dominant, the Hidden Gene "wins" and determines the appearance and behavior of the panda.
  3. If you want to guarantee that a recessive gene "wins", you should specify the recessive gene for both the Main Gene and the Hidden Gene. For example, if you want a brown and white panda, you should spawn the panda with "brown" as both the Main Gene and Hidden Gene.
  4. If you have 2 recessive genes, the Main Gene "wins" and determines the appearance and behavior of the panda.
