How to Use the Position Command in Minecraft

This Minecraft tutorial explains how to use the /position command with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

The /position command allows you to display/hide your current position (XYZ coordinates) in the top left corner of the screen while you play the game.

TIP: Starting in Minecraft Education Edition 1.0.21, the /position command has been replaced with the showcoordinates gamerule.

How to Enter the Command

1. Open the Chat Window

The easiest way to run a command in Minecraft is within the chat window. The game control to open the chat window depends on the version of Minecraft:

  • For Education Edition, press the T key to open the chat window.

2. Type the Command

To display your XYZ coordinates in the game window, use the following command:

/position

Type the command in the chat window. As you are typing, you will see the command appear in the lower left corner of the game window. Press the Enter key to run the command.

Once the cheat has been entered, the XYZ coordinates will display in the top left corner of the screen.

In this example, you will see the message "Position: 208, 69, 42" appear in the top left corner of the game window. These are your current XYZ coordinates in the Minecraft world where 208 is the x-coordinate, 69 is the y-coordinate and 42 is the z-coordinate.
