How to build a Cactus Farm in Minecraft
This Minecraft tutorial explains how to build a Cactus Farm with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, you can build a Cactus Farm that gives players an unlimited supply of cactus. This quick and easy farm is fully automated so that you'll never run out of cactus again!
Let's explore how to do this.
Required Materials to Build a Cactus Farm
In Minecraft, these are the materials you can use to build a cactus farm:
Steps to Build a Cactus Farm
1. Place Glass to build a 3 block high box
First, place glass blocks to build a box that is 8 blocks in length, 7 blocks in width, and 3 blocks high (dimensions are 8x7x3).
2. Dig out one of the sides that is 8 glass block wide
Next, go to a side that is 8 blocks wide and dig out a hole that is 6 blocks wide like the image below.
Continue digging until the hole looks like this:
3. Place Chests to collect the Cactus
Now, place 6 chests and then 6 hoppers above the chests (you will need to "shift click" to place the hoppers on top of the chests).
4. Add Water
Now go to the opposite side and using a water bucket, add water to the inside of the structure.
The water "current" should flow toward the hoppers.
5. Place Cobblestone above the Water
Next, you will need to place cobblestone above the water. This is tricky so start by placing 2 cobblestone blocks against the glass.
And then break the cobblestone block that is closest to the glass. This will leave the one cobblestone so that it appears floating over the water.
In total, there should be 4 cobblestone blocks placed when you are done, but you will have placed 8 cobblestone and then broken 4 of the cobblestone.
6. Place Sand and Cactus on the Cobblestone
Now, place a block of sand and a cactus on top of each of the cobblestone.
7. Place a Nether Brick Wall above (and between each set of cactus)
Now, you will need to place a block such as a nether brick wall above and between each of the sets of cactus. This is tricky so start by placing the nether brick wall on top of the cactus and then one in front.
Then break the nether brick wall that is on top of the cactus.
This will leave you with a nether brick wall floating above each of the cactus.
In total, there should be 2 nether brick walls placed when you are done, but you will have placed 4 nether brick walls and then broken 2 of the nether brick walls.
8. Cactus Farm is ready!
Now, your Cactus Farm is finished and should look like the picture below:
Now let's explain how this farm works! Each time a cactus grows, the top will break off. The piece of cactus will fall into the water, the water current will move the cactus to the hoppers, and the hoppers will put the cactus into one of the chests.
Whenever you need cactus, just open a chest and add the cactus to your inventory and never run out of cactus again!
Congratulations, you just learned how to build your first Cactus Farm in Minecraft.
