Ancient City in Minecraft

Where to Find an Ancient City

In Minecraft, the Ancient City is a new structure that spawns naturally in the game and was introduced in the Wild Update. The Ancient City is a long-abandoned structure found underground in the Deep Dark biome.

The Ancient City is made of new blocks such as sculk, sculk catalysts, and sculk shriekers. Wander the halls of the Ancient City to uncover some relics long forgotten.

Chests in the Ancient City

Once inside the Ancient City, look for chests filled with goodies to loot.

These chests may contain candles, compasses, leads, name tags, echo shards, disc fragments, music discs, soul torches, enchanted tools, and enchanted armor. There is also a chance that you can find Ward Armor Trim or Silence Armor Trim in the chest. You can use either Ward Armor Trim or Silence Armor Trim to visually customize your armor using a Smithing Table.

Protector of the Ancient City

Although no other mobs can spawn here, the Ancient City is protected by a new hostile mob called the Warden.

Warden

The Warden is blind and can not see anything, so it uses vibrations to navigate and identify targets. The Warden is awakened by sculk shriekers and has two different attack styles - melee attack and ranged attack.

When awakened, the Warden will spawn and dig up out of the ground. If you encounter the Warden, make sure you are wearing armor and be ready to "sneak". The Warden has 500 health points and inflicts the Darkness effect.

Darkness Effect

The Darkness effect is a new status effect that is inflicted by the Warden when you are nearby. In periodic pulses, the Darkness effect will lower the overall brightness of the world so that the darkness creeps up against light sources.

Swift Sneak

Within the Ancient City, you can find a new enchantment called Swift Sneak which can be found in chests that are guarded by sculk sensors and shriekers. Swift Sneak increases your movement speed while sneaking. This is the first enchantment that is unique to leggings equipment.

The maximum level for the Swift Sneak enchantment is Level 3. This means that you can enchant leggings with up to Swift Sneak III.

Reinforced Deepslate

Reinforced deepslate is a new mysterious block that can be found in the Anicent City and can not be obtained in Survival mode. This new block is very strong and takes considerably longer to mine than obsidian. Reinforced deepslate is used to create a frame-like structure that can be found in the center of the Ancient City. Look for a large wall made up of deepslate bricks and deepslate tiles. In the center of the wall, there is a large, rectangular frame constructed entirely of reinforced deepslate. You might find sculk veins growing on the sides of some of these reinforced deepslate blocks.

Nearby, there are lots of candles that are lit up. Beneath the wall, you can find the blue flames of soul fire burning and crackling. And below these flames, underground, you can find a series of redstone devices and rooms to explore.

All in all, this reinforced deepslate should be fairly easy to find. But be careful though, because your vibrations can awaken the Warden.
