Build a Potion Trap using an Observer in Minecraft

This Minecraft tutorial explains how to use an observer to make a potion trap.

In Minecraft, you can build a redstone device (using an observer) that drops splash potions on a player when a diamond block is mined. In this design, we used both of these splash potions - Splash Potion of Poison and Splash Potion of Harming.

Let's explore how to make this potion trap in Minecraft (watch our video below for detailed instructions on how we built our potion trap).

Required Materials

In Minecraft, these are the materials you can use to build this potion trap:

Build the Trap

In our design of a potion trap, we've placed a diamond block in front of an observer and built an oak wall around it. Then we've placed dispensers above the diamond block with a splash potion in each of the dispensers.

When the Trap is Activated

When a player mines the diamond block, the observer will detect the block change (ie: that the diamond block has been removed) and drop the splash potions on the player. This will give the player both the Poison and Instant Damage status effects.

TIP: You can use any splash potions that you want. You could even use splash potions that help the player, rather than harm them. It is up to you!

Congratulations, you just learned how to use an observer to make a potion trap in Minecraft!
