In Minecraft, a dead fire coral block is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game.

Where to find a Dead Fire Coral Block in Creative Mode

How to get a Dead Fire Coral Block in Survival Mode

You can add a dead fire coral block to your inventory in Survival mode by finding living Fire Coral Blocks growing in a Warm Ocean biome and mining them with a pickaxe. So, let's get started!

1. Find a Fire Coral Block

First, you need to find a fire coral block in your Minecraft world. A fire coral block is a red coral that is usually found growing underwater in a Coral Reef in the Warm Ocean biome.

2. Hold a Pickaxe

To mine a fire coral block, you need to dig up the fire coral block with a pickaxe. These are the pickaxes you can choose from.

If you try to mine the fire coral block with your hand or other tool (that is not a pickaxe), the small block of dead fire coral will not appear. And you will not be able to add the dead fire coral block to your inventory.

In this example, we are going to use a diamond pickaxe to mine the fire coral block.

3. Mine the Fire Coral Block

The game control to mine the fire coral block depends on the version of Minecraft:

  • For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the fire coral block.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the fire coral block.
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
  • For PS3 and PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
  • For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the fire coral block.
  • For Education Edition, left click and hold on the fire coral block.

You will need to continue to mine until the fire coral block breaks and a smaller dead fire coral block appears floating in the water. If you wait too long, the dead fire coral block will float to the top of the water.

TIP: Normally when you mine a fire coral block, you will get a dead fire coral block. However, when you mine the fire coral block using a pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch, you will get the living fire coral block itself as a drop.

4. Pick up the Dead Fire Coral Block

Make sure you pick up the dead fire coral block before it disappears.
