Steps to Feed a Donkey
1. Find a Donkey
Once you have one of these foods, you will need to find a donkey to feed.
Donkeys are usually found in the Plains biome.
If you are having trouble finding a donkey, you can summon a donkey using a cheat or you can use a spawn egg.
2. Use the Food
Next, with the food selected in your hot bar, you will need to feed it to the donkey. In this example, we are going to feed the donkey a hay bale.
TIP #1: To feed a donkey, you must have the food item selected in your hot bar and the donkey must "be hungry". Otherwise, the donkey will not eat.
Tip #2: If you are not holding a food item and you follow the instructions below, you may end up mounting the donkey instead. So be sure to hold the food first before trying the instructions.
The game control to use/feed the hay bale to the donkey depends on the version of Minecraft:
- For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the donkey.
- For Pocket Edition (PE), you move your pointer over the donkey and press the Feed button.
- For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
- For PS3 and PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
- For Wii U, press the ZL button on the gamepad.
- For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
- For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the donkey.
- For Education Edition, right click on the donkey.
Once you have fed the donkey, the hay bale will disappear from your hot bar.
The donkey's health will be increased and if the donkey was a baby, it will grow into an adult in less time than normal.
